The American Civil war was a war between the north half of America (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Oregon, California, Delaware, Kentucky, Missouri and Maryland, although Delaware, Kentucky, Missouri and Maryland were border states that did not completely support the union, as well as Washington D.C. which was a slave holding territory of the union) and the southern half of America (South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, Tennessee). Note: Even though Kentucky and Missouri were union states, they were represented on the confederate flag.
